The ERNACT network held its biannual Interregional Management Committee (IMC) meeting at the end of October, proudly hosted by the Donegal–Derry region. The two-day event brought together representatives from across the network to discuss strategic priorities for the year ahead and strengthen collaboration among partner regions.
The meeting took place in the Inishowen Innovation Hub, a facility developed through the ERUDITE project, which continues to serve as a hub for digital innovation and entrepreneurship in the region.
Opening the meeting, Cllr. Paul Canning, Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, welcomed delegates to Inishowen and highlighted the importance of European cooperation in driving regional innovation. On behalf of the Executive of Donegal County Council, Garry Martin, Deputy Chief Executive, extended a warm welcome to participants from across Europe and acknowledged the Innovation Hub as a tangible outcome of successful cross-border and interregional collaboration.
ERNACT General Manager Caitriona Strain and Network Chairperson Andrej Kos also addressed attendees, underlining the progress achieved within the network and the evolving scope of its digital transformation work over the past decade.
In addition to the business sessions, delegates took part in a study visit programme showcasing local innovation and culture. Participants visited Acorn Farm in Derry City, an inspiring initiative by Derry City & Strabane District Council that promotes sustainable urban food production and community resilience. The itinerary also included visits to Fort Dunree Military Museum, Mamore Gap, and Glenevin Waterfall, offering a glimpse into the region’s natural and cultural heritage.
The event concluded with a Mayoral Reception at Derry’s historic Guildhall, following a walk through St Columb’s Park, Ebrington Square, and across the iconic Peace Bridge — a fitting symbol of cooperation and connection.
During the Mayor's reception, ERNACT showcased the NPA Award for Delivering Change awarded to ERNACT for projects such as INNOCAP that incubate the transition to a green and digital Northern Periphery and Arctic, this category celebrates how innovation and participation transform ideas into action. Through digitalisation and collaboration, ERNACT and its partners have enhanced public services and made research more accessible, driving positive change for communities across the region.
“Hosting the IMC meeting in Donegal–Derry provided an excellent opportunity to highlight the region’s innovation ecosystem and reaffirm the shared commitment across the ERNACT network to sustainable digital transformation,”
said ERNACT General Manager, Caitriona Strain.
The ERNACT network thanks all participants and hosts for their contributions to a productive and engaging meeting.
