The 2017 European Capital of Innovation contest launched in March of this year with thirty-two cities from seventeen countries applying to this year’s competition. Ten smart cities have now made it to the final stage competing for a prize of €1 million to scale up innovation activities, with 2 runners-up who will receive a prize of €100,000 each.
The ten smart cities shortlisted are:
- Aarhus (DK)
- Berlin (DE)
- Copenhagen (DK)
- Helsinki (FI)
- Nice (FR)
- Paris (FR)
- Tallinn (EE)
- Tampere (FI)
- Tel Aviv (IL)
- Toulouse (FR)
The winning city must prove how they improved the quality of life in the locality by implementing innovative practices and involving the community. The winners will be announced on 7th November 2017 at the Lisbon Web Summit.
