Mission-Oriented Innovation (MOI) is an emerging field giving a better strategic and holistic orientation of Science, Technology and Innovation to respond to one or several of the grand societal challenges (missions) and create public value to society.

The EU and its members states are increasingly promoting and testing MOI approaches. However, MOI have had little or no impact at local or regional level. There is a growing need to reflect and align MOI approaches and rework them to suit NPA regions considering their conditions and challenges.

ERNACT led and Northern Periphery and Artic programme funded MINDSET project aims to explore how to apply mission-oriented innovation MOI as the way to address major challenges of NPA regions.
